Sixteen high school seniors from six area high schools were selected to each receive a $1,000 scholarship from the DMC Primary Care (DMC) Charitable Foundation. The scholarship is given to students pursuing careers in a medical-related profession who rank in the top 25 percent of their class. This year there were five recipients from Pinkerton Academy in Derry and four from Londonderry High School. Windham High School, Salem High School and Bedford High School were represented by two recipients each, and one recipient attended Bishop Guertin High School.

Dennis Rork, MD, a physician partner at DMC, personally handed out awards to each recipient who attended the award ceremony, as he has done since 2006. During the ceremony, Dr. Rork emphasized the need for the important work the students will be undertaking and encouraged each recipient to stay in touch with the providers at DMC for networking, internship and career opportunities.

“We are so pleased to recognize this year’s group of outstanding and deeply deserving students,” said Dennis Rork, M.D. “We applaud their dedication, compassion and willingness to help others in their chosen health and medical career fields.”

DMC Charitable Foundation has distributed $102,000 since the scholarship’s inception in 2006 to help students pursue their medical aspirations and experience the reward of making a difference in people’s lives. This year, two additional scholarships, in the amount of $500 each, were presented to Alice Hammond and Catherine Hazard and given in memory of Julie VanderMark, who was a talented and much-loved Physician’s Assistant at DMC Primary Care.

Applications for the scholarships are available every spring from the guidance office at each school.
