Diabetes Healthcare of New Hampshire at Derry Medical Center Receives NCQA Recognition

Derry, NH (July 7, 2011) -- Diabetes Healthcare of New Hampshire at Derry Medical Center has received recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Recognition Program for providing quality care to patients with diabetes.

"We are pleased to be recognized by both the American Diabetes Association and NCQA," said Jim Harris, APRN, BC-ADM, CLS  director of Diabetes Healthcare of New Hampshire at Derry Medical Center. "We will continue to provide the highest quality care so that individuals can live with, rather than suffer from, diabetes."

Diabetes is a serious disease that affects the body's ability to produce or respond properly to insulin, a hormone that allows blood sugar to enter the cells of the body and be used for energy. An estimated 25.8 million Americans have diabetes of which 7 million are undiagnosed; it is the sixth leading cause of death by disease in the United States.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA has been a central figure in driving improvement throughout the health care system by holding providers to the highest standard of care.
